FAQs

Got questions? We’ve got answers! Our FAQ section is designed to provide you with detailed insights into our therapy processes, how to access our services, and what you can expect from Your Therapy SA. If your question isn’t listed, our friendly team is just a call or click away.

  • To schedule an initial assessment with Your Therapy SA, please start by completing a referral form. Once we receive your form, we will allocate you to the most appropriate therapist based on their expertise and current capacity.

Following this, we will send you intake forms to complete, which help us understand you or your child's specific needs and goals. Your therapist will then contact you to arrange the initial assessment at a time and location that suits you best, whether it's at your home or at our clinic in Mitcham.

If you have any questions during this process or need further assistance, our friendly practice manager, Lara, is always here to support you. Feel free to reach out to her at any time.

  • At Your Therapy SA, anyone can refer themselves or someone else to our therapists, making it easy and accessible to begin therapy services without the need for an initial referral.

However, if you are seeking to access Medicare-funded visits, a referral from a General Practitioner (GP) is required. This GP referral is necessary to meet Medicare’s criteria for funding, ensuring that you or your loved one can receive the therapeutic support needed with the benefit of Medicare assistance. • At Your Therapy SA, we pride ourselves on our flexibility to meet the diverse needs of our clients. Our opening hours depend on the availability of our therapists and the specific needs of our clients. We understand that everyone has different schedules, and to accommodate this, some of our therapists offer evening and weekend appointments at no extra cost. To find a time that works best for you, we recommend discussing your scheduling needs directly with us so we can match you with a therapist whose availability aligns with yours. This flexibility ensures that therapy can fit into your life as seamlessly as possible.

  • At Your Therapy SA, we do not maintain a traditional waiting list. Instead, we triage all referrals based on urgency and need, as some clients may require more immediate attention than others. We understand that this process may seem unfair at times, but triaging is a necessary step to ensure that those with the most pressing needs receive timely care. We encourage you to call us to discuss any referrals, so we can explain how your case will be triaged and what to expect.

While we are happy to note your interest in our services, we recommend exploring other therapy options as well, to ensure that you or your child does not miss out on valuable therapy and intervention during any wait times. Our goal is to provide quality care efficiently and equitably, and we're here to discuss any concerns or questions you may have about starting therapy with us.

  • Should our services require travel to your location, we adhere to NDIS travel guidelines. Travel charges are categorised into MMM zones:

    • MMM 1-3: Up to 60 minutes for a round trip

    • MMM 4-5: Up to 120 minutes for a round trip

    • MMM 6-7: A pre-approved amount

We can help you identify your zone to better understand potential travel costs. We commit to informing you about any travel charges before we start providing services.

As a primarily mobile service we provide in-home services.

Choosing to visit our clinics eliminates travel costs. However, if a clinician visits your home, a fair travel fee will be applied.

  • At Your Therapy SA, we have a cancellation policy in place to ensure that our therapists and clients respect each other's time and commitments.

We require 48-hour notice for the cancellation of a scheduled therapy session. If this notice is not provided, the full fee for the session will be charged. We understand that emergencies can occur, and we strive to be flexible and understanding in genuine cases. However, as our therapists allocate specific time slots for clients and incur a loss of income due to last-minute cancellations, maintaining this policy is essential for the viability of our practice.

Our service agreement clearly outlines our cancellation policy for all clients. It's important to note that if our therapist visits you at home or school, a same-day cancellation will also incur travel charges. Any time set aside for a cancelled session is used for future planning or creating resources for your next session, ensuring that we continue to provide high-quality care and support to our clients.

  • A FCA at Your Therapy SA involves a detailed analysis of your function, including self-care skills like how you get dressed, have a shower or cook a meal, motor skills like walking and taking stairs, home care skills like cleaning and gardening, emotional regulation, sensory processing, thinking and cognitive skills, behaviour and more. Using assessments like the Vineland, ABAS, Sensory Profile, and WHODAS, our therapists write a detailed report, typically 40 to 60 pages, offering recommendations and insights to inform NDIS planners about your therapy, AT and support needs.

  • The FCA provides a comprehensive overview of your functional capacity and limitations, offering evidence-based recommendations to assist your NDIS planner in creating an effective, tailored NDIS plan to meet your unique needs and goals.

  • Our FCAs are conducted by qualified and certified allied health professionals, such as occupational therapists and physiotherapists, who specialise in evaluating functional capabilities and creating a supportive plan based on your individual needs and challenges.

  • Costing is determined based on the complexity of the assessment, involving in-person or telehealth sessions, report analysis, and detailed report writing, typically taking 15 to 20 hours. We will be able to provide a detailed quote.

  • The assessment usually occurs over 1 to 2 home or telehealth visits, each roughly 1.5 hours. After this, the therapist usually spends 2 hours reviewing all the reports and analysing the results from standardised assessments. You will receive the comprehensive report within 2 to 4 weeks after the assessment, but this depends on the complexity of the report.

  • Yes, within reason. While the findings must align with our assessments, we would like to let you know that we strive to include your lived experiences and feedback into our recommendations and reports, working closely with you throughout the process.

  • The FCA involves standardised tests, observations of your function, and interviews of yourself or others you would like to include, like a family member or support worker. This is to evaluate different aspects of your function, make sure you understand your abilities and challenges, and make sure you can give accurate and supporting recommendations.

  • For an FAQ section on a website regarding who can complete a Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA), particularly within the context of services provided by Your Therapy SA and in alignment with National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) standards, you might consider the following entry:

  • Preparation involves sharing any previous assessments or reports. Ideally, we would like to meet in your home where you feel most comfortable, and if we are assessing a child, they don't have to be there for the discussion. Please don't hesitate to talk about any concerns before the assessment with your therapist to help easy any concerns.

  • AT is a broad term that includes any equipment or systems that maintain, enhance, or improve the functional capabilities of individuals living with a disability. They're important tools to enhance independence and quality of life for a person with a disability.

Low-cost AT are priced under $1,500 and are generally low risk. Examples include tablets, handy bars, plate guards, shower chairs, toilet seat raisers, over-chair trays, side sleepers, and pressure cushions like a ROHO. Despite being termed 'low-cost', they can still positively impact daily activities and independence!

Mid-cost AT usually involves more complex items ranging between $1,500 and $5,000. These could include more advanced items or modifications customised to the client's individual needs.

It is essential to consult with an AT expert, like an OT or physiotherapist, when considering AT. They can provide expert advice, ensuring the chosen items are reasonable and necessary, related to your disability and a cost-effective solution.

  • Peter is a highly experienced Occupational Therapist and he can do basic and complex home modifications.

With knowledge and experience in tailoring home environments for accessibility and safety, Peter is trained and certified to complete complex home modifications.

  • When we talk about therapy and support within the NDIS framework, it's essential to understand the core of the matter: Having a disability doesn't mean you're 'broken'.

Disability is a part of the vast spectrum of human diversity. We, irrespective of our abilities, have unique strengths, challenges, aspirations, and stories.

As therapists, we are here to:

Empower: We equip you with tools, techniques, and strategies to navigate your world more comfortably.

Support: We offer a listening ear, guidance, and professional expertise tailored to your unique journey.

Collaborate: We work alongside you, ensuring your voice, choices, and aspirations remain central.

Educate: We share valuable insights about how you can harness your strengths and overcome challenges.

Our goal isn't to 'fix' anyone. It's about empowerment, understanding, and ensuring every individual can lead a fulfilling life on their terms.

Celebrate diversity. Celebrate you. Because you're not broken, you're powerful. And with the proper support, the possibilities are endless.

  • Did you know physiotherapy can help someone with a psychosocial disability?

Physiotherapy can play a pivotal role in improving physical and mental health, and here is how:

    1. A physiotherapist looks at a client holistically, and they understand that physical well-being influences mental and emotional health.

    2. Physical activity can alleviate some symptoms of mental health conditions, and a physiotherapist is trained and experienced in prescribing a tailored program. Exercise has been shown to boost mood, reduce anxiety, improve sleep, and increase self-esteem.

    3. Physical touch through manual therapy provides pain relief, reduces stiffness and aids in relaxation and connection.

    4. Aquatic Physiotherapy, more commonly known as hydrotherapy, is a gentle and safe exercise for most people, including those with psychosocial disabilities. Water's gentle resistance, buoyancy and deep pressure are a form of relaxation and stress relief. The soothing environment can benefit those with anxiety or sensory processing differences.

    5. Physiotherapists educate clients about the interplay between physical and mental health. This empowerment through knowledge can lead to better self-management and coping strategies.

    6. Physiotherapists prioritise functional improvement and achieving a client's goals. Improving physical function leads to greater independence and self-worth, positively influencing mental health.

    7. By enhancing physical health and mobility, physiotherapy can make community engagement and social activities more accessible, reducing social isolation.

If someone has a psychosocial disability, considering physiotherapy as part of their therapy can offer physical, mental, and emotional benefits, leading to improved well-being.

At Your Therapy SA, we recognise the importance of the relationship between a therapist and their client, and we strive to accommodate such requests whenever possible. It does depend on the therapist's current caseload and scheduling possibilities, but rest assured that all our therapists are highly qualified and committed to providing the best care.

Our team regularly engages in PD activities to stay abreast of the latest research and advancements in therapy practices. • Occupational therapy may be right for you or your child if there are challenges in performing daily activities at home, school, or in the community due to physical, sensory, or cognitive differences. At Your Therapy SA, we understand the importance of finding the right therapeutic match for success. Therefore, we offer a trial session with no obligation to continue. This allows you to ensure the therapist and your child are a good fit, making it easier to decide if occupational therapy is the right path forward.

  • A neuroaffirmative practice recognises and values the diversity in neurological development, embracing differences in brain function and behavioural traits as variations rather than deficits. At Your Therapy SA, our neuroaffirmative approach ensures that therapy is tailored to celebrate and work with each individual's unique neurology.

This perspective fosters a positive, affirming environment where clients are supported in ways that acknowledge their strengths and potential. By focusing on what clients can do, rather than their limitations, we empower them to achieve personal goals, enhance their well-being, and improve their quality of life. This approach not only benefits the individual by building self-esteem and confidence but also contributes to a more inclusive and understanding society.
